CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen) is a glycosylated cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is normally expressed during fetal development but is present at very low levels in healthy adult tissues. CEA is widely used as a clinical tumor biomarker, with elevated serum levels commonly associated with colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, lung, and breast cancers. While not specific for a single cancer type, CEA is valuable for monitoring disease progression, detecting recurrence, and assessing therapeutic response, particularly in colorectal cancer management.
