CD30 (TNFRSF8) is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily (TNFRSF). It functions as a cell surface receptor that interacts with its ligand CD30L (CD153), triggering downstream signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation, activation, and apoptosis, particularly in the context of immune responses and lymphoid development.

CD30 is expressed on activated T and B lymphocytes, as well as on certain subsets of natural killer (NK) cells. Its expression is notably upregulated in several lymphoproliferative disorders and malignancies, most classically in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), where it serves as a key diagnostic marker. In these diseases, CD30 contributes to oncogenic signaling and cell survival, making it a valuable therapeutic target.

Clinically, CD30-targeted therapies such as brentuximab vedotin (an antibody-drug conjugate) have demonstrated significant efficacy in treating CD30-positive lymphomas. Beyond oncology, CD30 is also studied in the context of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, reflecting its broader role in immune regulation. As such, CD30 remains an important molecule in both diagnostic pathology and targeted cancer immunotherapy.
