GM-CSF (Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor) is a cytokine that stimulates the production, differentiation, and functional activation of granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils) and macrophages from hematopoietic progenitor cells. Primarily produced by T cells, macrophages, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts, it plays a key role in innate immunity, inflammation, and tissue repair.

GM-CSF enhances the phagocytic activity, antigen presentation, and cytokine production of myeloid cells, bridging innate and adaptive immune responses. Clinically, recombinant GM-CSF is used to accelerate neutrophil recovery following chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It is also being investigated in cancer immunotherapy as an adjuvant to enhance antitumor immunity and in the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Dysregulated GM-CSF signaling is implicated in chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and certain leukemias, highlighting its importance in both physiological and pathological contexts.
