IL-5 (Interleukin-5) is a hematopoietic cytokine primarily produced by activated T helper 2 (Th2) cells, group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), mast cells, and eosinophils. It plays a central role in eosinophil biology, including their differentiation, activation, survival, and recruitment to tissues. IL-5 is also involved in B cell growth, immunoglobulin class switching, and antibody production.

Clinically, dysregulated IL-5 signaling is strongly associated with eosinophilic disorders, such as asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis, hypereosinophilic syndrome, and certain parasitic infections.
